Many times the ultimate goal is to undermine our private rights. As the secret barrister argues, whenever this happens, we have to be questioning who might be benefiting from such campaigns. It’s effortless to create a mob approach to justice and launch attacks. Prominent cases will often end up being “judged” in the court of public opinion, and judgments there can hugely differ from actual legal judgment. It’s not a subject explicitly taught in school. Despite its significance, we’re vulnerable to misinformation because we don’t really know our laws. The law touches on all aspects of our lives and governs quite a significant part of how a society functions. While there is often a representation of law just being for criminals in the media, that couldn’t be further from the truth. We live under the illusion that it’d never happen to us to be innocently accused of anything, or maybe just something like being let go of your employer unlawfully. That’s one of the big reasons why we think that the system isn’t for us.

Personally, I had an encounter with the legal system, but my issue was pretty quickly addressed (it helps to have lawyers in your network). If you’re like most people, you haven’t had to rely on the legal system much yet. He argues that often, these misrepresentations by law, the courts, and the legal professions aren’t mere mistakes but deliberate campaigns driven by parties who have an interest in undermining trust in the system. That being said, I was intrigued to learn more about how the law or coverage of it is exploited. We read parts of it and applied them to past events, but do I recall a lot of it? No. Back in Germany, we had to buy the Grundgesetz (Basic Law) for a society and economics class. However, I’m aware that legal education isn’t the greatest.

I’ve not lived in the UK long enough to have been confronted with many public legal cases that sparked colossal outrage.
